Day 8: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater (200km: 3-4 hours)
Breakfast: At the Camp.
Depart the Serengeti with a game viewing drive en-route
Morning: Set off on a game-viewing drive through the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The crater was formed between two and three million years ago, when a volcano exploded and then collapsed into itself; today the crater spans about 100 square miles. The name of the crater—and the surrounding region—comes from the Maasai, who were inspired by the sound a cowbell makes, and fossils suggest that animal species have been on the land for at least three million years. The land has been occupied by various tribes of hunters and gatherers in recent millennia: The Mbulu and Datoga were here until the Maasai took over the land in the 19th century. No Europeans stepped foot in the crater until 1892, but today it is a popular travel destination for visitors from all over the world.
As we descend into the crater, we’ll discover the diverse flora and fauna that make up this vast expanse of highland plains, savanna, savanna woodlands, and forests. The crater is home to about 25,000 larger animals, among them Cape buffalo, rhinoceros, wildebeest, zebra, and an especially dense population of lions.
Lunch: Enjoy a boxed lunch in Ngorongoro Crater.
Afternoon: After lunch, we’ll begin our climb through the cloud forest and out of the crater floor and return to our lodge, where you can retire to your room or explore the lodge grounds by foot.
Dinner: At the lodge.
Evening: On your own, with the freedom to take in the tranquility of our surroundings.

Day 9: Ngorongoro highlands to Tarangire National Park Breakfast: At the lodge.

The crater rim offers you a breathtaking view of the Ngorongoro sunrise to brighten up your morning drive. You will be briefed on the day’s safari beforehand. Day 11: Amboseli National Park Game viewing
Breakfast: At the lodge.
Morning: Amboseli National Park. Set on the border of Tanzania and in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli is a bird-watcher’s paradise: It shelters more than 400 bird species, including pelicans, flamingos, kingfishers, and ibis. We may see some of these avian wonders while we take in the view of the sweeping savanna.
And while the region’s birdlife is abundant, elephants are by far the kings of this park. Said to be among the largest in the country, Amboseli’s elephants are fond of the swamps: Here they share the cool waters with hippos that often hide from view beneath the papyrus. Along our drive, our experienced driver-guides will show us how to detect the elusive wildlife in our midst, in addition to pointing out other highlights of this vibrant ecosystem. Perhaps we’ll glimpse some of Amboseli’s large wildebeest and Burchell’s zebra populations as we drive.
Lunch: Enjoy a packed lunch.
Afternoon: in the late afternoon, we’ll return to our lodge, and have some time to settle in before dinner.
Dinner: Served at our lodge main restaurant.
Evening: All evenings at our tented camp are free for you to relax in your room, linger in the bar for a nightcap, or sit by the fire with your fellow travelers.

ExcellentBased on 180 reviewsVerifiedKarl W28 June 2024Seven Wonders Safaris - a great budget option! I booked the “11-Day Budget Kenya & Tanzania” safari with Seven Wonders Safaris which included visits to the Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Serengeti National Parks as well as the Ngorongoro Crater. (For reference, my trip was in mid-June.) While the safari was booked with Seven Wonders, there were 4 distinct parts of the trip with 4 different guides (Jeremy, Festo, Agatha and Julius) and varying clients. Travel was always in a 6-7 passenger Toyota Landcruiser equipped with a pop-top (so passengers could stand up to see the wildlife) and electrical sockets (although some were better equipped than others). All the guides were knowledgeable about the wildlife, were accommodating and provided interesting information during the game drives. Overnight accommodations were good with showers and power except for the 3 nights spent camping in tents where the ability to charge devices and take showers was available but limited. Overall, the trip was very well organized. As hoped for, I saw the Big Five (elephants, rhinoceros, cape buffalos, lions, and leopards), many interesting and beautiful birds, cheetahs, various species of antelope, giraffes, hippopotamus, hyenas, zebras and much, much more. Sightings of wildebeest were primarily in the Ngorongoro Crater as they had already migrated further north in the Serengeti (and the safari was in the central and south end of the Serengeti.) Additionally, as a result of the high water-level in Lake Nakuru, sightings of the lesser flamingos (the pink ones) were limited. These birds feed on algae that thrives in shallow water (the consumption of which gives the flamingo their pink color.) Enroute to Lake Nakuru, we also stopped at Lake Naivasha and took the $20 boat ride. This was actually an unexpected highlight of the trip due to the many species of birds which were pointed out to us. Given the significant distances between parks, a few days were primarily consumed with driving from one to another – the trips from Nairobi to Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru to Arusha and central Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Crater being the longest. Despite the long drives, it was a great experience to visit all three major parks (i.e. Masai Mara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro)! While I saw both flamingos and wildebeest, none were visible in great numbers which was to be expected in mid-June. Unexpected were the wildfires which are apparently set annually by the Serengeti Park rangers to burn the dead grasses and enhance new growth. Unfortunately, this resulted in very poor visibility in several areas of the park, though not all. I also booked a tree-top balloon ride over the Serengeti which was a pricey but wonderful experience. Also worth considering is the brief Olduvai Gorge excursion which provided an interesting geologic history dating back 7 million years. If you are looking to go on a safari without breaking the bank, this is a great option!Verifiedbadsha m24 June 2024Had a feeling of real adventure.. It was really very nice to spend few days in the wild with 7 wonders .. had a great sighting.. Driver was very good at spoting wildlife and his knowledge about nature and wildlife is just amazing.. My shef was also very good, no complaint regarding food.. it was testy and healthy too . My best wishes to team 7 wonders..VerifiedBella17 June 2024Don’t hesitate! Will recommend to friends and family! From start to finish, our experience with seven wonders was excellent. Evelyn made what seemed would be a daunting trip to plan seamless. She was very responsive despite the 8 hour difference and made adjustments to our itinerary to customize our experience. She even helped book hotels that I was interested in from my research and made sure they knew that we were on our honeymoon. We got a special “gift” at every place we stayed at and she even got us a free upgrade to the honeymoon suite. We did 6 days in Kenya and 6 days in Tanzania. We absolutely loved it. She coordinated with the Kenya company so that we only had one point person. The hotels were also stunning with great food. We have never felt so pampered. Our guide was amazing. Hosa was very knowledgeable about the wildlife and it was clear that he had a passion for it. He made sure we were comfortable and was friendly and timely. He was also very knowledgeable about tribal life. We saw so many animals and the experience was breathtaking. It’s definitely something we will talk about for years to come. Overall, this was a 10/10 experience and I plan on booking again when we have some little ones to bring along.VerifiedKenS082611 June 2024Great Adventure to Victoria Falls My wife and I did an 8 day Victoria Falls excursion, for our honeymoon, all arranged by 7 Wonders Safaris in Tanzania. 7 Wonders Safaris does much more than just Tanzania. It was an absolutely fabulous experience in Zimbabwe and Zambia. We stayed at the Stanley & Livingstone Boutique Hotel in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe for four nights. While there we saw Victoria Falls and all the surrounding canyons from the comfort of a helicopter. Breathtaking!!! We also explored the Falls on a walking tour and went on two fabulous game drives in the Victoria Falls Game Reserve. We had a quite pleasant Dinner Cruise on the Zambezi River above the Falls. We then spent 3 nights at the The David Livingstone Safari Lodge in Livingstone, Zambia. We did a walking tour of the Falls and got a different perspective from the Zambia side. We also had an afternoon cruise on the Zambezi where we saw many different animals along the banks. Both of these hotels are great. Their staffs are very friendly and supportive. The food at both was superb. I must give a special thanks to Evelyn at 7 Wonders Safaris for arranging everything for us. Her assistance was much appreciated.VerifiedNoelia A8 June 2024Magic Adventure Wonderful safari with the company of our guide Frank and Joza our expert driver! They have made this experience unforgettable, taking care of everything in detail for our well-being. Thanks of course to Evelyn, a serious and legal person, always willing to help you, and solving any type of problem that may arise, therefore, we will always take you along ♥️Verifiedeven K16 April 2024Adventure on the steppes We saw all kinds of animals and it was very educational and fun! Recommend sleeping in a tent to get the real Safari feeling. No problem visiting during the rainy season, mostly fine weather and few people in the parks! RecommendedVerifiedCarol D9 April 2024Every day was amazing, yet every day was better than the day before! My husband, teenage grandson and I spent 10 fabulous days on safari in Tanzania with George Mollel as our guide and driver. Besides being an incredibly nice person, George is also extremely knowledgeable about the country, animals and people. His enthusiasm is contagious and he kept all of us fully engaged all day every day. Our trip was very well organized with attention to every detail, and all went off without a hitch. All accommodations were exceptional (except for one disappointing meal and George spoke up for us). We traveled to Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park. George was able to keep us away from crowds yet up close to the animals. Just some of the animals we saw: elephants, giraffes, ostrich, lions, leopards, chetah, gazelles, cape buffalo, dik diks, jackals, wildebeest, hartebeest, zebra, hyenas, hippos, monkeys, baboons, crocodiles, impala, wart hogs, flamingos, hornbills, vultures, eagles, guineafowl, hawks, the grey crowned crane, and secretary birds. Every day was amazing, but George would say, “Just wait until tomorrow!”. On our last full day we saw lion cubs not even two weeks old. Even George said he didn’t think he could top that! Trip of a lifetime!VerifiedKenS08269 March 2024Two Fabulous Weeks in Tanzania. My wife, Nueng, and I did the 12-Day Platinum Private Guided Tour with George Mollel. We added an extra day at the beginning and at the end and turned it into a two week fabulous adventure. The Safari included Arusha, Arusha National Park, Lake Duluti, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Southern Serengeti National Park, Central Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Eyasi. The accommodations throughout the trip were superb, the food was wonderful, and even included lunch at the famous Gibb's Farm. We must give many thanks to Evelyn, in the main office, for handling our every need. She handled our original reservation, with many requests for different quotes, flawlessly. Even while we were on the Safari, she was very helpful in changing some of the scheduled activities for us and resolving any issue that arose. George Mollel is a fantastic guide, who speaks excellent English. His in depth knowledge of the areas we visited, the wildlife, and vegetation was excellent. He was constantly keeping us entertained with wildlife sightings and anecdotes about our surroundings. During our two weeks with George, I would estimate that we easily saw over 500,000 animals, including elephants, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, cape buffalos, rhinos, hippos, gazelles, hyenas, jackals, monkeys, baboons, zebras, wildebeest, dik diks, several species of antelopes, a huge variety of birds, and ostriches. Seven Wonders Safaris is a great company, and I highly recommend their Safari Packages.VerifiedEllie C29 February 2024A once in a lifetime trip we won’t forget I cannot say enough good things about Seven Wonders. We did the 9-day Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Lake Manyarna, and Ngorongoro itinerary. Evelyn was super communicative and easy to work with as she answered all of our questions. Our Maasai Mara guide, Freddy, was great and we enjoyed our modest accommodations. We got to visit a local Maasai village, which was certainly a highlight, as they were incredibly welcoming to us. We especially loved the Tanzania leg of the trip. We stayed in some really beautiful places that were welcoming — and had some truly awesome food and staff. Our safari guide, Lucas, was so incredible and was really what made our safari so awesome. He was really kind/knowledgeable about the landscape and animals. We felt like we were in really great hands the whole time. I would 100% recommend Seven Wonders and Lucas to any friends or family wanting to travel to East Africa! They made our visit amazing. They also helped coordinate add ons to take a hot air balloon ride and visit the Olduvai Gorge, both of which we recommend.
