Best Country for Gorilla Trekking Rwanda or Uganda?

What to know before going on your gorilla trekking?

  1. Never make eye contact with the Silverback, if a Silverback begins to get aggressive, look down immediately and take a submissive posture by sitting.
  2. Your guide will instruct you not to touch gorillas because they are susceptible to catching human colds or diseases.
  3. Bring a camera that does not have a flashlight or you can turn it off, as a flash photograph is not allowed.
  4. Please note that children under the age of 15 years are not allowed, or anyone with flu or other sicknesses that might be transmitted to the gorillas.
  5. Each gorilla visit will be limited to a maximum of only 1 hour, once a day.
  6. Bring plenty of water
  7. Be prepared for hiking from 1-6 hours each way
  8. Make sure you have rain-protecting gear and wear good hiking boots.
  9. An extra set of cloth left in the car might be helpful.
  10. Gloves are recommended as protection from the stinging nettles in a bush which can cause swelling, for the same reason wear long pants and long sleeve shirt for the hikes.
  11. Please use waterproof bags {NO PLASTIC} to keep your equipment dry, and make sure your camera is protected in a waterproof container.

What are the rules for observing the gorillas?

  1. Total silence should be observed all the time
  2. No smoking, eating, or pointing at the gorillas
  3. Do not stand above the guide so if he kneels, you also kneel
  4. Follow the guide’s action all the time 
  5. Move slowly and be calm at all times
  6. If a Silverback charges DON’T run
  7. Keep behind the guide all the time
