7 DAYS: BIG FIVE AND GORILLA EXPEDITION IN AKAGERA & VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK

During this tour in the country of thousand hills, you will be experience gorilla trekking, the wildlife, the history, culture and tradition of the people of Rwanda. Day 1: Transfer from Kigali International Airport to your Hotel

When you arrive at Kigali International airport, the first impression is the availability of the airport staff and the cleanliness.The formalities are quickly settled and recovered. Here they don’t lose time for formalities and our representative will welcome you to Rwanda. After you will be transferred to your hotel for overnight.

Day 2: Kigali City Tour

At the Kigali genocide memorial and the campaign against genocide you will get to know all about the country background and knowing the truth cause of the recent bloodiest genocide through the tangible testimonies and images.Later you will visit the Community where you will get to know all about Rwanda cultural uniqueness through some handmade products and their impact on reconciliation.

Lunch at pension plaza in down town a round in the city center and free zone area will explain you why Rwanda is today fastest growing economy in the world and the cleanest country in Africa. Dinner and overnight Serena hotel

Day 3: Transfer to Akagera National Park from Kigali

After a relaxed breakfast from your hotel in Kigali, you head to Akagera National Park. Akagera National Park covers 2500 km² of savannah west of the Kagera River, in the north-east of Rwanda.The park has a variety of wildlife and is a habitat for over 500 different species of birds. Herds of elephant and buffalo emerge from the woodland to drink at the lakes, while you might stumble across a leopard, a spotted hyena or even a lion. Giraffe and zebra haunt the savannah, and more than a dozen types of antelope inhabit the park.

You will have lunch and in the afternoon you will go for an afternoon game drive and in then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Game drive and Boat ride on Akagera National Park

In the morning after breakfast, you will go for a game drive in the park in search for wildlife. During the game drive through the Savannah grassland of Akagera national park, you should watch out for animals like the Lions, Leopards, elephants, antelopes and many more.

 After the game drive, you will have lunch and in the afternoon you will go for a boat ride on Akagera River in search for water loving animals like the hippos, and crocodiles. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Akagera National Park – Musanze

Have breakfast and then enjoy a morning game drive, we shall return to Kigali  and you will continue your journey to Musanze, the second largest town in Rwanda, with its stunning backdrop of five volcanic mountains – The Virungas.Arrive at Red Rocks Intercultural Exchange Center for lunch before joining the local brew makers to understand the chemistry of the process of brewing a local beer from bananas. 

If you find the activity interesting enough you can join the women in squeezing the juice out of the bananas and drink a glass of juice (optional). Understand how long juice takes to turn into alcohol after adding in sorghum flour.Enjoy a big glass of our local brew if you feel like it! Among other activities they also do basket weaving in this local community, an activity which supports local families financially. Later drive to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park – Lake Kivu

After an early morning breakfast, you will transfer to the park headquarters together with your packed lunch early enough to be briefed about the code of conduct while with the gorillas.This will be followed by entering the forest in search of the gorillas in the forest which may take 2-6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas in the jungle. Meet and stay with the gorillas for a maximum of one hour. After gorilla trekking you will be transferred to Lake Kivu for relaxation.

Day 7: Explore Lake Kivu – Return to Kigali

After your breakfast at your hotel, you can choose to relax at the Lake Kivu or you can choose to take a boat ride in the traditional dugout canoes and listen to the ‘sea stories”. The place is teaming with water birds like pelicans sailing, Grey crowned cranes, pied and malachite kingfishers above the shore waiting to catch their next meal.Later you will be transferred to Kigali for your flight back home.
