Experience the true adventure of guided walking safaris and game drives, and in Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve), you have game viewing on the river.

Day by Day

Day 1:
Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park.

This morning you will depart for Lake Manyara national park Spend the afternoon on a game drive in the park, described as one of the hidden treasures of Tanzania. This park is famous for its tree-climbing lions but don’t set your life for these and if you see it takes it as a bonus. Other sightings might be elephants, giraffes, buffalo, and amazing birdlife. Dinner and overnight at Gibbs farm lodge.

Day 2:
Karatu to Ngorongoro Crater

Leave the Plantation Farm lodge very early in the morning, and drive through the Ngorongoro conservation before descending, 610 meters down to the grasslands of the crater floor, an area of about 265 square kilometers. Despite its small size, the Crater is a Big 5 country and the openness of the terrain means easy and rewarding game viewing. You will spend the day exploring the crater floor, stopping to picnic on the grasslands amidst the grazing herds. Formed by a massive volcanic eruption, the world’s largest intact and un-flooded caldera provides a year-round home to an astonishing 25,000 large mammals including black rhino, wildebeest, and zebra along with Africa’s densest concentrations of hyena. The Crater’s forests shelter elephants and buffalo, its wetlands are home to hippos and flamingos while lions, jackals, leopards, and caracals make up the full range of predators. Late afternoon you leave the crater behind and drive back to your accommodation for dinner, and overnight

Day 3:
Karatu to Serengeti National Park

“Home to the world’s last remaining large mammals”
You leave the Plantation safari lodge after breakfast with a picnic lunch packed safely and depart this morning for game viewing in the central part of the Serengeti. This part is famous for the abundance of lions and leopards that can usually be seen easily. Game viewing in the central area is spectacular all year round. Enjoy the views of endless plains and stunning wildlife like cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, hippos, ostrich, jackals, hyenas, hyrax, and many more, and if you time your safari very well you might come across the great migration of wildebeest, and zebra which are here between the months of November to June, but even when the migration is not around game viewing is superb. Late in the evening proceed to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 4:
Full day Serengeti National Park.

After a leisurely breakfast at your camp, we set out for the endless open plains and stunning skies of Serengeti National Park – a famous migration corridor and UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you’ll have a chance to witness the great migration of wildebeest and zebra. Depending on the time of the year, the migration is within the southern grass plains and the central part during the months of December-May. On this day, we will explore the park’s rich habitats for the big cats who rule the plains, Serengeti is home to lions, leopards, hippos, cheetahs, giraffes, elands, warthog, and hyrax. The plains are dotted with mammoth rock out-crop, swamps, valleys, acacia tree lines, and River-line habitats, in the central part, marking game-viewing good throughout the year. Our camp is set in the central park giving us perfect movement for game viewing. After an extensive day of game viewing return to your camp for dinner, and overnight.

Day 5:
Fly Serengeti to Nyerere National Park (Selous Game Reserve)

After breakfast, you will be driven to the airstrip for your morning flight to Nyerere National Park Formally Selous Game Reserve, a flight of approximately 2 hours. A guide from Seven Wonders Safaris will meet you and game-drive you through this very different park, arriving at the camp for lunch. Settle in here and enjoy views overlooking the great Selous River and elephants coming down, enjoy your time with a beer, before going on an afternoon game drive, exploring the sandy riverbeds looking for elephants as they dig for water or leopards hiding in the rocky kopjes.

Main Destination: Nyerere NP (Selous Game Reserve).

Accommodation: Africa Safari Camp Selous / Lake Manze Tented Camp.

 

Day 6 - 7:
Full Day Nyerere National Park (Selous Game Reserve)

Each morning and afternoon you can choose from the safari activities on offer. Game drives are a good way of exploring farther afield and seeing the larger wildlife and predators. The Selous offers a wide range of habitats to explore from grassland savannah to floodplains, and miombo woodland, and is home to a multitude of plains game, large elephant herds, lion pride, and African wild dogs.
At Nyerere national park, you have the unique opportunity of leaving your vehicle – perhaps to approach a placid elephant herd undetected or to simply discover what is around the next river bend on foot. In addition to game drives and guided nature walks, you can experience boat trips and picnics on one of the many scenic sandbanks and excellent birding.
Your accommodation- Lake Manze Tented Camp is an authentic, rustic safari camp nestled amongst Doum palm and Terminalia trees. Its location is perfect; sitting nicely on the edge of Lake Manze with a well-used elephant track meandering alongside the entire camp.

Day 8:
Fly Nyerere National Park to Dar-es-Salaam.

You’ll have a final breakfast at Serena Selous camp before a drive to the airstrip for your late-morning flight to Dar es Salaam. The flight will likely stop a couple of times on the way to drop off/pick up passengers, and the total journey will be approximately 2 hours. You will land at the domestic terminal and the airline will help you transfer the short distance to the international terminal, where you can check in for your international flight home

Main Destination: Nyerere National Park

Accommodation: No Accommodation.
